This desk does not recommend providers
That is a rule, stated first: no endorsements, no named practices, no referrals. What this file carries is the public infrastructure of care in San Diego County — the directories and finding tools that anyone can use, operated by public and nonprofit agencies. Choose through them, not through a marketing page.
Start with 211
211 San Diego is the region's community information service — a free, confidential, 24-hour referral line covering San Diego and Imperial Counties. Dial 2-1-1 from any phone, or search the online database at 211sandiego.org, for health services, clinics, coverage assistance, and more, in over 200 languages. It is the county's designated connector to community and health resources, and it is the right first call when you do not know where to start.
County listings
The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency maintains program directories across public health, behavioral health, and assistance programs — clinics, eligibility, and services — at sandiegocounty.gov/hhsa. County listings are public listings: they exist to route residents, not to sell.
Federally funded health centers
Federally qualified health centers provide care on a sliding-fee basis regardless of insurance status. The federal finder at findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov searches by address for centers near you. It is run by the Health Resources and Services Administration — an official directory, not a commercial one.
Coverage first
Before choosing a provider, settle the payer: Covered California (coveredca.com) is the state's official health insurance marketplace, and Medi-Cal eligibility runs through the county. Many collision-related visits are covered care — and the coverage question is part of the claims structure this desk explains elsewhere.
Emergencies are not a finder problem. Chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe headache, numbness, or weakness after a collision: call 911. Directories are for the days after.
Why public resources only
A referral directory that takes no money from the providers it lists can be neutral. A marketing page cannot. This desk's independence rule — no endorsements, ever — is the same reason the About page says no one sponsors a word here.
